In one of the biggest shakeups in consumer storage this year, SanDisk has officially retired the iconic WD Blue and WD Black SSD product lines, signalling a major rebrand under its freshly revived “Optimus” banner.
SanDisk’s revamped SSD broken into three purpose-driven tiers
- "Optimus 5100" brand that focus on Entry-level SSDs, replacing the WD Blue series
- SanDisk "Optimus GX" brand replacing WD Black Mid-Tier models
- SanDisk "Optimus GX Pro" brand replacing High-Tier WD Black drives
Alongside the rebranding, SanDisk has debuted an interesting addition. The Mid-Tier "Optimus GX 7100M" SSD. It comes with high performance and size available in 1 TB and 2 TB.
SanDisk executives noted that the updated lineup and tiered naming structure are designed to help buyers more intuitively match drives to their use cases, from gaming to professional workloads.
